Solar panels
Rooftop and ground-mounted PV designed around your roof, structure and 24-hour demand profile.
Solar for care homesSolar for the care sector — and only the care sector
Care homes are one of the strongest cases for commercial solar in the UK. You run day and night, so most of the electricity your roof generates is used on site — protecting tight margins from rising grid prices.
The care-home advantage
Most commercial buildings are a compromise for solar. Offices empty at night, shops peak in the evening and warehouses sit idle for half the week. Care homes are different. Heating, hot water, laundry, lifts, nurse-call systems, kitchens and lighting draw a steady load every hour of every day.
That constant demand lines up neatly with when your panels are generating. The result is a high self-consumption rate — typically 40–60% across the year and 80–90% in summer — so most of what you produce is used immediately at its full value, rather than exported cheaply to the grid.

Why it works

A care home is one of the strongest cases for commercial solar anywhere in the UK, and the reason is simple: you use electricity around the clock. Heating, hot water, laundry, lifts, kitchens, refrigeration, nurse-call systems, lighting and medical equipment all draw power day and night. That means most of the electricity your panels generate is used on site the moment it is produced — at the full price you would otherwise pay to import it — rather than exported back to the grid for a few pence. This high level of self-consumption, typically 40–60% across the year and 80–90% in summer, is what makes the financial case so compelling. For a well-sized system the payback period is usually in the region of four to seven years, after which the electricity is effectively free for the remaining 25-plus years of the panels' working life.
But a care home is not a warehouse, and it should not be treated like one. The roof we are working on sits above vulnerable residents, busy carers and visiting families, in a building regulated by the Care Quality Commission. That is why we plan every installation around your routine — quiet working windows around mealtimes, medication rounds and visiting hours, clear escape routes and walkways, DBS-checked installers and a full staff briefing. We also provide a documentation pack that supports your 'well-led' CQC evidence, and we can specify safe lithium iron phosphate battery storage to keep critical systems running during a power cut. Whether you want to buy outright and claim 100% first-year tax relief, spread the cost with finance, or pay nothing upfront through a Power Purchase Agreement, we will set out the options honestly and size the system from your real bills.
